Years ago I lived in South Korea and learned how to paint with Chinese ink sticks. The sticks are very different in application when compared to India ink. Instead of being in a liquid form the ink sticks are basically soot mixed with glue that I grind down with water in order to create the ink. When I later began carving marble I discovered that this ink stains easily into the marble surface, so I was able to combine my painting directly with my sculptures. Every sculpture has some ink painted onto it. Symbolically the wings are signs of hope that embrace positive change.
