I Fly

Nature in Motion for Lincoln Park Zoo

Public Art Installation

The current sculpture of the common housefly perched in the act of swooping down from the leaves will be expanded to the maquette style with scrap metal and an enlarged base. The fly symbolizes humanity and the leaves pristine nature, while the scraps of metal are humanity’s impact on the earth. This depiction of anticipated flight reflects the worldwide ecosystem of interactions between organisms and their environments, a constant ebb and flow, for better or for worse, of energy and resources or “Nature in Motion.”
