Wood Veneer Halcyon 2018
Public Art Mixed Media Installation
Halcyon, can be defined as an idyllic time in the past, a bit of carefree happiness. It also references a king fisher or a mythic ancient bird that nested upon the sea. The slowly spinning wood veneer piece redefines what wood can do and pushes the medium into pure sculpture sans furniture functionality. The effect of ethereal lightness is enhanced by attaching it to a slowly spinning motor that delicately spins it. The pile of marble beneath it anchors the airiness and reminds the viewer that the past is simply a fleeting memory, anchored only by the weight of the present.
