The Pink Necklace

Excerpt The Pink Necklace

A short 1 act 10 minute play by playwright Jyl Bonaguro

(Room with window.)

SAM
Alice, hand me the pale pink one.

ALICE
(Wearing wedding dress and holding pearls.)
They are all pale pink.

SAM
That one is more pale. Are they antiques?

ALICE
No something borrowed.

SAM
Who lent you loose pearls?

ALICE
An old friend. Something borrowed, something blue, something…

SAM
Something new.

ALICE
Yes, new.

SAM
I can’t believe, you have me stringing pearls right before the ceremony.

ALICE
(singsong.)
Better late than never.

SAM
Enough already, anyways who gave them to you?

ALICE
Why?

SAM
Why not?

ALICE
An old friend.

SAM
You said an old friend already. Who?

ALICE
…Alex.

SAM
Alex?

ALICE
Be careful. You’re going to drop the necklace.

SAM
I hope I do. How could you?

ALICE
You don’t understand.

SAM
Correct…I don’t understand. Why, I am stringing pearls, on your wedding day, that are from your ex-fiance.
